Evolutionary Inheritance
From Evolution to the Journey of the Mind: The Lost Civilisation and the Fall of Human Cognition
A framework for reading human history through the mind. Evolutionary Inheritance asks what a civilisation inherits beyond its genes, and follows the same chain as the first two frameworks, from physics into biology, biology into cognition, and cognition into the myths, monuments and habits of a whole people.
Explore the framework below: Read the published paper for the framework’s formal structure, or read a free sample of Inner Horizon to follow the conceptual journey.
The same chain, at the scale of a civilisation
Temporal Convergence traced the chain at the scale of the universe, and Cognitive Resonance traced it at the scale of one mind. Evolutionary Inheritance picks it up at the only scale left: what the same patterns of clarity and noise look like when they belong not to one person but to a people, encoded in their myths, monuments and institutions.
Where it looks
- A coastal world. The Ice-Age coastlines, now under the sea, and what the evidence can and cannot say about the people who lived along them.
- A climate upheaval. The Younger Dryas, the populations it displaced, and the inland societies that followed.
- What was remembered. Monumental architecture, flood traditions around the world, and the real intellectual achievements of ancient systematic knowledge, valued on their own terms rather than as primitive versions of modern science.
- The mind beneath it. Adaptive and reactive cognition, and what real research on stress, attention and contemplative practice supports.
- The present. How inherited habits of mind meet the digital age.
How it makes claims
This framework covers wide territory, so it is strict about method. Every claim is labelled as established evidence, structural hypothesis or interpretive narrative, and claims that can’t carry any of those labels are declined. Several of the book’s own early ideas were given up this way, and it says so. What remains is a smaller, better-supported claim than the one it started with.
